Trish Cooper (she/her/hers) is a Hoosier-born and raised magna cum laude graduate of Bryn Mawr College, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology, with honors. She attended law school at the University of Virginia School of Law and began her legal career with a coveted position as an Assistant District Attorney with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York City. During her time in New York, Trish honed her trial and persuasion skills in numerous felony jury trials and grand jury presentations.

Seeking the natural beauty and work-life balance that Colorado had to offer, Trish left the buzz of the Big Apple for a position as an Assistant Attorney General with the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. In 2001, she seized the opportunity to combine her diverse legal skill set, background in psychology, and interpersonal strengths and entered private practice in family law. For more than twenty years, Trish has represented hundreds of domestic relations clients in a wide variety of family law matters throughout the state of Colorado. She has developed a reputation as a keen strategist and fair-minded yet formidable advocate for her clients, both inside and outside the courtroom.

Trish’s practice frequently includes divorce with highly complex financial issues, such as business entity valuation, family trusts, separate property tracing, prenuptial agreements, and equity compensation structures. Her practice also includes child custody matters, spousal support (maintenance), same-sex divorce, and grandparent and step-parent adoption. Trish prides herself on finding creative solutions tailored to the specific needs of each client, and she appreciates the significant emotional and financial challenges that clients face as they navigate the divorce process. Counsel and clients who have worked with Trish describe her as smart, caring, professional, and practical.

Trish is a past Chair of the Family Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association and a Past President of the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She has been honored numerous times as a top attorney in the area of family law by Colorado Super Lawyers, and as one of its Top 100 Lawyers in Colorado and Top 50 Women Lawyers in Colorado. Trish has also been recognized as a Best Lawyer in family law by Best Lawyers, a venerable peer-review publication in the legal profession, and she has been recognized by 5280 Magazine as a Top Lawyer in Colorado family law multiple times.

Trish is a frequent lecturer in continuing education presentations to attorneys, judges, and other domestic relations professionals on a wide variety of family law topics. She was a Co-Coordinating Editor of family law articles for The Colorado Lawyer for twelve years, and she has been a contributing editor/author for the The Practitioner’s Guide to Colorado Domestic Relations Law and the Colorado Family Law Section Bench/Bar Book for judges and practitioners. Trish is a member of the Family Law Section legislative and education committees and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ Continuing Legal Education Committee and Amicus Committee. She is also a member of the Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Trish enjoys volunteering her services in family law matters through Metro Volunteer Lawyers.

Outside the office, Trish loves to spend time with her family, which includes bi-coastal children, and she enjoys a wide variety of hobbies and interests, including traveling, hiking, New York Times crossword puzzles, podcasts, art and design, theater, gardening, estate sales, and cooking.
